Might be. Carrier inner seal were wrong (probably for a 10 bolt instead of a 12 bolt) so buddy his going to source the proper stuff. Pinion and carrier bearing are correct so hopefully a minor mixup. Need to get his truck out of the way so I can start on mine. Ring and pinion and spider gears in the front axle.

Man that thing is nasty. I do not think I have ever seen a ring and pinion that bad before.

Back to the saw...I just looked and it's an older model...it's the 032, I was thinking this saw is older than the 028 and 034 and not an easy coil swap..

Any comments on a coil replacement ?

I have a few broken ones under my belt but this one takes the cake! Pinion bearings crapped out damaging the carrier and breaking almost half the ring gear teeth.

Might be better to go to the junkyard and get a whole new rear end

i had similar thoughts but he wanted to keep what he had... I have a 3/4 ton semi float gm axle with 1/2 ton wheel pattern sitting here. The rear axle is salvageable. The front with busted gears is not however.

And is this Lil red barn coil a special electronic coil to replace an older style . for some reason I thought this was an old school system. I think there are several types of ignition on these older saws...right?

OK I went and looked and there wasn't a coil listed on their site under 032 so something must be different about it. I found someone on ebay a year or so ago that offerers a repair service to fix your coil.
