J. Dirt congratulations to you, my friend. You can be proud and I have a come-back to your wife. I remember one (my sister) who likes to make cracks about our wood piles. "Do you think you have enough yet?" Well, I ask, "Do you have any money in the bank? Do you have enough?" Now let us look at the wood pile in comparison to the money in the bank. You get to see the wood but not the green paper. You can stack up all you want and not have to pay taxes on the wood. But what about interest? Well, you do get interest (and pay taxes) for the bank dollars but don't you also get interest on the wood? Prices go up all the time so as you wood sits, it grows in dollars. Then there is the peace of mind and that lovely heat, especially when the real cold sets in. And you don't have to worry about sitting the thermostat too high as it will cost too much. Just keep that house as warm as you want and enjoy it.
I have been wondering what to do with all of the small-diameter stuff I have lying around. I think I may do the same thing and just collect it up off the ground until I have enough to make a day of it.
I hear from friends, "You better be careful, you're gonna run out of wood!", followed by laughs. Ha ha, pretty funny. I just keep cutting. Or if asked, "do you think you have enough?", I say "Enough for what?" The wife is with me, she looks out and never sees too much wood.
So, has the hoard increased or decreased in a year and a half? Still collecting, or have you coasted for awhile? I need to coast, but the hoarding force is strong within me...
Well..... I’ve been coasting a bit and burning a bit during this heating season. Trying to rotate some stock before things start to get past their prime. I will say though I’ve got plenty lined up to CSS when the time comes!
Man you just showed me my dream.Plenty of rounds cut to length and just the right size to slip in the stove north to south and no splitting. Now if I can just make my dream come true. Thanks for the great pictures.
