Are Alaska willows a tree? I’m not sure willow has any BTU :D But moose like it. It’s more a shrub . ... Alder also, I use it for smoking...

I like to drill the wood just a tad bigger than the fastener. Give it room to move a tad, I’ve had a few tight screws strip off at the wood steel...
