The fan limit is a delicate unit and should work fine if untouched! Your screws for the plenum just above it are not touching it? I would check...
I would take the cover off and watch the fan limit move as it's rising in temperature!
Nope, never had that problem. Are you the original owner? Maybe the previous owner played with the high limit or tried to adjust the temperature...
