Gasoline also works although a bit of caution is advised.
Very tough to hand split once it dries - I called a buddy to use his hydraulic splitter a few years back. Lot of effort for not that many btus....
Most of the rounds will fit in the stove - I have a Fisher Papa Bear. I’ll need to use a chainsaw on 8 or 10 rounds.
Yeah I have some gum now that’s near impossible to split by hand, for me anyway. Many rounds will fit in the stove as is but the others are...
Chunks shorties and softwoods get separated. Oak ash and maple get stacked and burned together. Any wood I cut now is not getting burned for 5...
Looks like you’re on the 3 year plan for matches!
My stacks don’t get the most sun - I wish it got more. But they still get plenty dry with enough time. Top covering is essential in my area...
I use scraps from splitting and bark that falls off on its own. I have some old trash bins that I fill with kindling during the summer. 4 bins...
Buzzsaw I’ve had them sit up several times - not always the biggest trees either. I always make sure kids and the dog are far away when I cut a...

Never tried it but my dog loves to chew on sugar maple splits.
I was going to say have fun splitting some of those by hand! Smart move taking the easier to split wood for yourself.
I was throwing some wood downhill to the road years ago and a fairly large piece combined with bad aim resulted in that dent. As I said it is a...
Yeah that sounds right. I figure 3 loads for 1 cord. I considered a bigger truck but this Ranger was the right deal at the right time. Really...
My son and I were able to cut some wood in the National Forest this morning. He wanted to earn some money and I love the help. We got three...
Love splitting this time of year - good workout, no bugs, and not drenched with sweat when I’m done.
About 25 cords c/s/s. Getting more wood over the next month or two and then will split this winter. Hoping to cut 5-6 more cords this year.
Gypsy moths are here and there are some dead oaks as a result. But the EAB has killed just about every ash tree I think. National Forest...
All that sounds great! Around here we call it red maple. Going to get some more this weekend!
