Some sort of white oak but the bark is long and flakey. Almost looks like shagbark [ATTACH] [ATTACH]

Isn’t cottonwood all stringy and a bear to split? Probably explains why it was so hard to mill
Update: this was cottonwood, which I'm told is a garbage wood so I'm glad I walked away from it

With the highly figured crotch stuff is it better to let the log completely dry first before milling? Or doesn’t it make a difference? I know oak...
