I do know a few guys that grind the rakers totally off,they thing it makes the saw cut faster.
I would say that he has taken the rakers totally off.The saw is running fine but the chain has no rakers.
You get what you pay for.
If your good at hand filing stick with it.You get better chains by hand and they last longer and hand filing is just as fast.

You got the wrong information,I have split the toughest elm with this type of splitter.
If you are over 45 get a ferris,if you are under 45 take your pick between scag, ex mark,bobcat,toro,Deere,husky etc.I would stay with commercial...
