Yes that piece of elm was cut the same day I split it very gnarly! I have split Elm before that split easy but it was seasoned before I split it.

The older OWB's will burn green wood. I prefer dry wood it burns better and I believe I get more heat from it. It always has a nice bed of coals...
Doesn't Box Elder usually have red streaks running thru the splits? Any Pic's?
When I look at the picture of the old chain it looks like the gullet is to deep so the top of the cutter is not getting sharpened. Just my 2 cents.
