You could try to follow the black with wight wire at the plate lamp to where it terminates to ground. Might have to peel the conduit back be...
You could cut the black with white wire and attach the socket side to the the battery neg via the jumper cable. at the plate lamp socket.

Rectangular box with three large connectors by the battery. Pcm has little to do with the rear lights. They are controlled by the body control...
There may be additional grounds on the frame in the back. The black things are relays it’s not uncommon for them to get warm not hot.
Just pay close attention to polarity you do not want to do any welding or letting the magic smoke out. If you don’t know all electronic devices...
Put the black clamp of the jumper cables on the neg of the battery in your truck then the black clamp at the other end on the new eyelet you put...
You could certainly run it back to your battery.
