I dunno about HD, but I bought a crimper...$20ish IIRC. Or take parts to a local heating n air or sheet metal shop to have them modify as needed.

That's what I did, it works good. You burn hot/clean, so it will be fine for you too. Some people say "you can't do that, it'll cool the flue too...

Mixing brands of pipe/fittings? That doesn't go too well sometimes. That said, yeah I'd customize whatever needs it to get connected...
Some stoves have a short leg option...which changes the hearth R value requirements too, maybe other clearances/etc also...

Most manufacturers specifically say not to...pretty easy to overheat stove internals/etc that way, it can turn a pile of semi hot coals into...

Good advice...pine, or any fast burning/low coaling wood will do. Also, might go without saying here, but if he is a new burner he may not know...
So it sounds like you can get it to work if you play with the switch long enough...so do that, get it to run, then just leave it on at the pump,...
