At first release, their quality was not up to the original SS.. Not sure what they've changed to improve durability...
I got to try out Don's super split at a GTG, and I furnished him with some 16-18" rounds of elm and hedge.. They had knots in them, and the SS...
This piece was a full width cut... Had to nip some off the back side to get the mill to fit over the piece of Elm it came from. [ATTACH]
Super splitters are fantastic machines...
Chainsaw mills can't be too big... This is a granberg Alaskan mill on a 36" bar... [ATTACH] I can only get about a 27" wide piece with it....

Actually, the 6 way sucks... Unless you got really good straight rounds... The 4 way is the best for normal rounds... Big single for most of the...

Na.. My neighbor was enamored with my ported 385, and would not take no for an answer... So he traded the 2 saws in the pic for my ugly old 385...
The first wedge you see there is a 12" wedge... The second piece of stock is a support for the 4 and 6 way that drop in between them. [media]
I'm a Dolmar/Husky guy too... That being said, those 290's sure were "and still are" a popular saw... On the performance level, I'd give the Husky...

I used a dremel on a chain yesterday just for grins... File removes material better, but I can see how a dremel could be used for good results.....
