I like a few songs, and I like his style, but outside of a "Born in the USA" and one or two others.. he's not the super star he's made out to be.

I could not agree more. It's my favorite too.
I will tell you that is one of his least known and better albums.. full of beautiful jazz riffs and melodies. Very Steely Dan like in some ways....
