I have a buddy locally with a machine shop thats going to tackle it once his flu is gone.

I agree. They started making the new ones in China a few years ago, then Eastwood purchased them. No idea what's going on whith them now.

If it was a new acme rod, it would only need the fat end drilled out and the acme thread rod welded in. The original looks to be all one piece....
That's what I was thinking, or buy acme rod and have the handle put on.

Rope like stated above. I only use a hard piston stop for zeroing the timing wheel if I'm going to port the saw.
Muffler mods really help. They are really choked off. Plus there are limiters on the carburetor. Echos also seem to take a long time to break in.
