Same here. Lots of them in town, never seen one in the woods.
When I was a teenager, we burnt Persimmon out of a large thicket we had. I was horrible. Sopping wet. Cut then burned, one truckload at a time....
These seem to be the most productive. Big stuff makes lots of wood but its difficult to handle.
Im lucky enough to only process when the weather is nice. Plenty of decent winter days in my area. Very few in the summer though. IMHO, it’s worse...
I’m in the same boat. 90%+ of what I burn is dead standing red oak. The latest was a white oak that died in ‘12. Not my preference but I’ll take it.
