Here's the roller bearing on the ash door, one on each side... Woodstock did not skimp on this part of the stove either... [ATTACH]
Ash pan on the PH is very well built.. Even has roller bearings that the door latch arms ride closed on... They didn't skimp on the ash pan set...
Dennis I know you have it down burning the coals up , plus I know you burn really dry wood...seems not to be an issue for you for sure.:)

I usually just rake the ash from the coals, then remove the pan... I usually have nothing fall from the firebox when removing the pan. I've looked...
I only hold the ashpan door open a bit just until I see flames... that's rare.. I always have enough coals to just add wood..... I have a 12 x 12...
How about moving all your coals to one side..... Load in some wood and shovel as many coals as you can on top of the new wood,,,, making a top...
