I'm pretty sure that's Red Elm. And it's best to keep it under cover when you store it, elm can get a little punky when wet.
I say red elm. Red Elm is actually easier to split than White Elm (American Elm) They burn hot and dry pretty quick but they're a bear to split by...

The smell nd the popcorn flake bark is a guaranteed way to identify cherry.:)

Bubble gum scent always gives it away.
Definitely smells and looks like cherry up close, in fact there's a cherry baby tree not far from of it. If it was a black Birch I'd be surprised...

Ash is a good wood, doesn't burn as hot as oak hickory or locust but it does dry so much faster.
