Eric VW makes a good point. Pin oak has smooth bark and looks quite similar.
Bark looks a little too smooth to be oak. Looks like it might be red alder from the pics. Post a pic of a split piece when you can. Nice score!!...
FatBoy85 use caution burning black walnut outdoors if you have dogs. The smoke contains juglone which can be toxic to dogs and some other animals....
