I second getting the 2-n-1 style [ATTACH] For me, the hardest part isn't getting the cutters sharp, it's filing down the depth gauges evenly....
That’s most likely silver maple. Here’s a pic from a pile I grabbed this week that I know is silver maple showing bark and end grain for reference.
