I haven't noticed any issues with my yellow Mesh filter.
The flocked should filter better than the mesh. Did you try the oring mod or try some grease on the intake?
I've run the yellow mesh filter in my 346 for years I haven't seen any fines get past the filter into the intake. They seem to work good enough.

I use either a file or belt grinder
I use the sharpie method. But You can also tell which teeth have be been sharpened because they have the filings piled up under the tooth.
