Thanks! I don't have the metal yet only because I need to build the front roof still and after that put all of the 1x4 ferring strips down to put thr metal on.

I'm still debating on the roofing, either cheaper galvanized stuff strictly for the roof that's there now and painted for the front, or all painted. The roofing is very expensive, so on materials.

I hate when I put in a lot of work and you can't tell the difference just by looking

Well Seasoned have you priced polybicarobnate panels.. they are rated for roofing you can get them in colors although I like clear or soft smoke color and then you don't need a lot more lights in it I think they're about $20 a panel 3 ft wide length you need

I'd like something a little more rigid, however, I may run a few sections in between the metal for light. I did use it on the chicken coop run and it's fantastic stuff.

I got some pricing today from 3 suppliers, so I'll be doing some figures soon.

The roof will be complete today, but im not likely getting to the front roof done today. I'm already running out of fuel. We'll see what lunch does for me. :)

Certainly looks like you been getting it done. I agree the metal with a few strips of the clear for light.

I’ve been told to be wary of the different materials expanding/contracting at different rates, leading to eventual leaks around fasteners. This might be an old wives tale. ?

Possible I suppose, maybe from mixing 2 different materials?

While I do think that there will likely be a difference in the expansion/contraction rates between dissimilar materials, I don't think it's a "show-stopper".

The screws that are used have rubber grommets, coupled with the fact that a slight bit of leakage, while possible, shouldn't hurt anything.

Biggest issue I could see is the difference in shape.

If your metal isn't corrugated/formed in the same fashion as the poly panels, then you'll have more issues with leakage.

I've seen it done on some pole barns, but never stopped to ask questions of the owners.

Good info..... not sure what I'm definitely doing yet. The sides and back won't be done by fall- money & time ya know. The metal will freeze & thaw and drip anyway. Important thing is out of the weather & sun.

Well Seasoned .. the plastic panels for skylights do okay. If you remember my remember my Horsebarn and I have six on it. The newer Plastics are of course better and you have to get the ones that match the same profile of your metal roof. The new ones survive the 85 mile an hour wind storm that cost me power for a month.
The old ones started to leak after the F1 tornado that came through 2006.. reading this I really wonder about where I live:D..
Also there are 10 of them underneath my upper deck over my wood deck. I did this so that when the snow rain came down the lower deck Stayed dry

Thanks! I'll likely go all metal. I need to get my order in by mid next week, which will get cut to the inch and delivered. Both owners and a co worker surprised me today saying that we'll cut out early and bang it out in a few hours on a Saturday in a couple weeks! Perfect!!

Now..... I've got a ton of stuff to do until then!

I got most of the front roof done late this afternoon. 2 more rafters to do, then bracing. It was so freaking hot!!

Dawn is picking up an orpington rooster tomorrow after work since someone she knows has to many. He'll be about the same age as my girls, and his name is already Maui! :headbang:

There's something about a crowing rooster that we miss. Plus, since your not here, we're having trouble getting up before sunup.

Moved about 20 FEL buckets of chips to this old skidder trail, this is the beginning of my trail system in the back 40. It is usually a muddy mess. The chips came from the tree clearing for the house.
