Hard to tell because I pull wood out of the heaphausen till the snow gets azz deep to a tall Eskimo then pull out of an attached shed. Sheds almost empty . Pretty sure it's less than past years. I've done a fill and 1/2 and I'm usually between 2-3 this time of year.
2 cord to date with 1/2 cord left for March. Normal use is 2 1/2 cord but have 7 1/2 stacked so not worried.
Probably close to 3 cord. I used 11 skids worth of wood stacked 2 ft high. I just ran out of good seasoned wood. burning some slightly wet sassafras on the coldest evenings just to warm up the family room.
Closing in on 4 cords up in smoke. This winter has been a pathetic failure, with no snow worth mentioning , and a whole bunch of hype that gets me excited , then we get rain. Even the polar vortex didn't really happen on the NH seacoast. Now that winter is over, the weathermen are cranking up the snow hype again, I fail to be impressed. Unless it gets cold and stays that way for more than 3 days, this could be a mild 5 cord winter
About 3 1/2 cord so far, including 1/2 cord of pine and another 1/2 of badly spalted birch and beech. I have 1/2 cord of KD and 1/2 cord of uglies and pine with at least 2 months to go, so I brought home a ton of Lewis wood bricks yesterday to mix in. Working great so far! The goal is to not burn oil. We’ve been running the heat pump when it’s below the teens to supplement upstairs also. That added about $50 last month. It’s been colder than average here all winter and it started early. Here’s hoping it ends early too but I’m not holding my breath. Hope for the best, plan for the worst.
North of 10 cord heating the whole place. Got probably 12 cord on hand yet. 7-8 pretty dry. Been a very windy cold 2nd 1/2 of the winter here. Shop is the big heat suck during the day with doors up & down & cold vehicles coming in all day long. Really don't care though as temp stays at 70 24/7. No cold restarts, no 48 degree mornings inside etc. Water is always hot & the floors are always warm. Best investment I've made in years, along with siding & more insulation. Wood's easy to come by for me, so let er burn.
I would only be guessing as some is piled under a tarp, some is on a hay rack (empty) on a flatbed wagon (just started on this week) and two sheds full (one empty one clear full yet). Until getting on here, never thought of wood as cords, only pickup loads.
We are at about 3 1/2 cord in so far this winter. For reference, we're in Central Va, heating with an Orlan Eko 40 Gasification boiler, 2800 square ft via forced air heat exchanger, 750 gal of hot water storage, plus domestic hot water. Once I finally insulate my shop, I will open that loop with a unit heater for an additional heat load. We are looking forward to keeping that 40 - 50 f, and could crank it up when working in there. Miss September loves the amount of hot water for showers in the winter. I'd jokingly bet her that her "habit" costs us a min of 1/2 a cord per winter. I think she would not care if I removed the tempering valve (anti-scald)...
You kick me, I’ll kick you. About 4 1/4 into what should be 4.5 for the season. Bought the gasket in September and never got around to it and then lit the stove and it’s been on mostly since. I bet that mistake will cost me 3/4 cord or better.
Hello there shipmate! Your assumption is correct, she would not mind at all. 99 lbs loves heating season for the hot water! No valve here.
Well I solved my problem. Found a Facebook Marketplace ad that had only been posted for 12 minutes, guy selling 3+ cords of dry hardwood. I was the first one to respond, went to look, bought on sight. Turned out to be closer to 4 cords, maybe more, of bone-dry, 4-7 year old mixed hardwood, cut split and stored under cover. Mix of mostly sugar maple, red oak, ash, shagbark hickory and few other species mixed in. Apparently his wife developed a woodsmoke allergy and couldn't burn wood anymore. Went to pick it up today and he said he had over 25 inquiries on it even after posted sold. Oh yeah $550, so a good deal for this area. I gotta go take some MC readings but I bet all of this stuff is under 15% MC.
