Wind kills my heat load too. Last winter I could go down to -15 with no wind and the wood stove could keep up. 10 degrees with a 10 Mph wind and the dino burner kicks on.

We are currently at 0 degrees which is bad.

My other home is unoccupied, but heated, and has been sucking down the propane. So much so that yesterday it had 0 in the tank. We called for a fill-up, but they only come once per week, so we put the thermostats on geothermal setting and hope that we can coast through until Monday. I did shut the breaker off to the water oump though so that if a water line separates, it will not flood the house.

My own house is freezing...maybe 65 in here with the @#$%^& pellet stove almost running full-throttle. We will limp through winter with it, but it is stupid. I got 30 years of dry firewood and I am buying pellets only to freeze to death. Every day I hate pellets more and more and more.

On a better note, I did get my basement fixed so it is operating at Neutral Thermal Inertia. That means it has no temperature swing. Using insulation in the right spots I was able to use the ground to heat the basement enough so that I do not have to light a fire in the basement stove to keep the pipes from freezing.

Low of 8 last night, sitting at 11 right now. Had a later reload than normal last night around 10:15, normally do it around 7:30, so it was still at 73 when we woke up this morning. 72 now but the sun is out fully today with a high of close to 30 predicted. The house should hold temp with the solar advantage today. First time we will be seeing the sun all day in at least 2 weeks.

Reason #54 of 110 I love my IS, is in a case like this I can close the air tight and it will hold the coals until I decide to reload tonight. Open the air rake everything forward and in 10 mins all the coals are glowing red hot load it up and poof off goes the old 3.5 yr dry oak (thanks to the great info from people here when I joined or I'd be burning what I cut this spring). Happy Sunday Funday everyone!

Boiler ate quite a bit of wood last night. Sun is supposed to come out and stay out today...weird.
