I've looked at those, and they would work really well. Unfortunately my blower takes up my rear pto.. I would like one on front
Chains look great! A bummer they caught on the one spot. I would be tempted to shorten the outer chains by several links. I’m coming at this from an ag tire experience, and a larger diameter tire, which I suspect makes things easier. And I could just be all wet. So where the bunnies (autocorrect-should have been bungies) attach, there would be zero deflection possible without a turnbuckle on my chains. A forestry engineer taught me to be fearless at cutting out chunks of chain and gluing it back together with shackles. From here by the fire, with one picture of the side to work from, I’d consider removing 2 links from at least 3 places on the side chain, knowing that the 3 shackles needed will effectively be like only removing 3 total links. They also make special links for taking up slack on the side chains as they lengthen and the tire shrinks. I’m willing to drink a beer and reassess. Until then, be comfortable knowing this advice is worth what you paid for it! (Kidding aside, I definitely would shorten them.)
Our TV weather radar put's you in the "bulls eye" tonight/tomorrow. If the chains "walk" around on the tire you'll need to tighten them up some. Enjoy them Brian.
Here’s one where the side chain is shortened by one link, using one of those “special” links I mentioned. The round plug in the center of that link is rubber. Some of those have fallen out and are lost, but to no detriment. I’ll cut that link off after listening to it clink all last winter. Run them as-is, but watch them closely. If they shift, it is sure to be at an inconvenient time and place.
The chains look great Well Seasoned !! I would gladly trade a dent and some paint for a set like those. Enjoy the added traction.
I have plenty of shackles left, I'll take a better look at it after the storm. There is definitely room to snug it down more. Yup, will likely be coming home to a mess tomorrow evening. We'll see what happens, I did leave enough room to slip my hand under the chain suggested by the literature that came with it.
Thanks for the picture. So the shackles that came with the chains that are leftover should work? The threaded pin head won't bend?
Well Seasoned I've thought about chain's for my 'bota as well, but I've read conflicting views on them for the little BX25D. I've got the quad w/plow and chains, so for the foreseeable future I'll use what's worked so far. Looking forward to a review from you over the coming months.
Here’s a couple of different shackles I’ve used. I check the pins periodically to be sure they stay screwed in. They get worn, and occasionally replaced.
Rain on my way home from work, but has turned to heavy snow, with about an inch of new. A real sloppy mess, as the ground wasn’t frozen before the snow cover last week.
I did that last year, January on...... it got tough on inclines- getting the neighbors farther up open.
fuelrod found some great ones - you will be very pleased at the trouble you can get into with this much traction.
Yes, that’s why mine are still on the garage floor. But they do need to be on since winter looks like it has come to stay. Once the ground firms up you’ll have even more grip than you have now.
