We kinda of got a little off topic here: Crappy oak

So I figured I'd start a thread here.

We've cut our grocery bill significantly buying mostly stuff from Aldi. We'll even pick up beer and wine there due to the prices.

We actually prefer the one we shop at in Vermont due to the prices. There's a bit of a delta on most things between VT and CT.

Backwoods Savage was concerned that it was just a "generic" outlet.
I buy quite a few things there that sre exactly the same as the big name brand. Their Benton brand cheezits and vanilla wafers and thin mint cookies are excellent. Croutons, crackers, milk, eggs, cheeses, half & half, fruit, spaghetti and sauces are all good and much cheaper.

Just know ahead of time there are no baggers. We just keep a couple boxes in the car to carry our groceries home in.

Where is there an Aldi up your way TurboDiesel? I know there is one in Burnham but didn't know you had one up there. I've never been in the one in Burnham.

They opened up one around here a few years ago, my wife likes it and gets some different things that are of good quality. I was in there a few times, I liked it, not bad at all!

I used to do field trouble shooting for a food production machinery co. Been in a lot of plants, seen a lot of things. Common to see the "store" brand stuff running on the same line as the name brand. Same product different packaging.

Yup, we have our brand along side about 60 some odd other brands at my job. If people would use their noodle they could save a lot of coin getting the same thing as name brand food just in an off brand. I do realize there are some things that are special but in a good majority of things it is nothing but the second best for us. That being said, I went top shelf for my bride! Her husband though was a generic in the discount bin that she used a coupon for when she picked him out.

    2.28 around here!

My SIL has been working at Aldi's for 28 years, apparently they are an awesome company to work for. I like a lot of their foods and the produce and fruit is priced right. Although I have found a few items that I don't like!

90% of our food comes from Aldi. They are as much as 40% cheaper on many items and I like that they're smallish stores (here in the U.K. anyway). As mentioned their wines and beers are good and their gin consistently tops polls for taste and value.
I like the random tools they get too, oh and most the tarps I use come from there too.

    :bug:

And here I was feeling pretty good about paying close to 2 and 1/2. :emb:

Our own experience with Aldis food store is ya gotta kinda pick 'em. We have had great luck and also poor luck. Yes, we still shop there and enjoy it though.

To clarify yooperdave that is $1.76 per litre, not gallon...
Edit, just noted you were not referring to the price I posted.

I remember 30-40 years ago the generic potato chips in the white bag with black letters.
    They were good!

Now all you can buy is the overpriced name brands between 4 and 5 $ a bag.
