And 10% veteran discount. Hand split is over. Another tool that allows the family to help me, and teaching the kids some hard work is always worth it.

I store my DHT 22 ton splitter under these old airplane windshields.
Once the snow flies I used to shove my predator 20 ton into the church basement, I don't know if this one will fit through the basement door.

Rope does that have a cut-off so you can start it without the hydraulic pump working? I hope so. Or maybe you can store it where it isn't so cold as those can be a bear starting when it is really cold out. That is one reason why I usually do our splitting in the spring after the temperature is just above freezing.

Looks like a direct drive...those ones with the belt drive that can be dis-engaged for cold starting are pretty slick though...that the one issue I've had with mine...starting it at 5*F is a bear!

That's a great question, I will defer to brenndatomu . He has a similar unit. I run Chevron aircraft hydraulic oil in my systems. And will be switching this one over. As far as motor oil, I will run what it has in it for 5-10 minutes and replace with AMS oil. I plan on keeping it in the heated garage to make things easier. I need to build a wood shed this up coming spring. That way the wife and kids can get the splitting done in the summer. That will leave me with getting logs in the winter. Looking forward to the time this will free up for me.

Picked this up on EBay for $829 and free delivery, the county line table was the only modification I've done to it so far.
    20181015_163608.jpg
I added it to give me more options for splits, but I actually like is better than the DHT table.
    20181015_160730.jpg
I also added it to protect the filter casting from dropped rounds.

My next modification will be a slot or holes in the plate at the ram cradle end of the beam. It collects dirt and trash and eventually packs itself full

I used one original hole, and drilled a hole in the beam for the other end. It was actually easy to drill as the beam seems to be mild steel.

There are holes on the base plate end, the trunions and retainer plate for the ram create a box that catches any junk the wedge drags back on the return stroke.

It seems DHT was experimenting with this model, and ultimately dropped it, my splitter came in a crate, completely dissasembled, with no instructions, or build video links. If you look at my "scrounging six cords a year plus" thread, i have pictures of how I assembled it by studying the picture on the tag.

Maybe it was just too new, now they have it on website, and with manuals, neither were there when I got mine.

22 Ton Half-Beam Horizontal/Vertical Log Splitter, DHT Engine | Dirty Hand Tools

Interesting they call it a DHT engine, mine is a Loncin engine, and it looks identical.

I am actually impressed at the size of the base plate on the end of the beam, when i split vertically I feel like it's too small, but then I look at the foot on most splitters and realize how big it actually is

That County line Catcher Looks better than the one on mine I could make it fit , Drill new holes or whatever .
I wouldn't want a table on the operator side though I don't think It would work well for My size .

Oh, Wait a minute :smoke:, It might workout if I cut part of The one I have off and make it smaller For the operator side

Any chance you remember how strong those magnets are? I am thinking a pulp hook hanging off the end would come in handy.

Awesome. I definitely would have crushed it going vertical. Thanks!
