thewoodlands , I've been thinking about doing these on the foundation for a while to help with heat loss. https://www.menards.com/main/buildi...542-c-9532.htm?tid=3021417521244559681&ipos=1
We had a quick 10 degree drop from 70 degrees with some wind and then it stop, we have been getting rain but we need it.
I was wondering what length screws you would use to screw through a 1.5 inch thick board and then through some OSB (0.40 inches thick) and into the 2 x 6 in behind the OSB. This will be the back support for the workbench in the garage. I'll be using exterior rated screws, is 2.5 inches long enough or would 3 inches long be better?
Well, how much weight do plan on loading the shelves with? You could counterbore in a 1/2” as well....
Shop Power Pro One #9 x 3-1/4-in Bronze Flat-Head Exterior Multi-Material Screws (1-lb) at Lowes.com I'm thinking these would be good.
All the force on a shelf(not too deep) is typically 90° to the shelf, so as long as you don’t load the front of the shelf too much, the 2.5” screws + 1/2” deep counterbore setup will be quite robust.
We have drywall type screws the length we need but they're not exterior rated, it's inside the garage but I still like exterior rated screws.
Who doesn’t... But I don’t believe even in a partially conditioned space you will ever see those drywall screws degrade to any point near failure.
Not all the walls are and none of the ceiling is. Getting the cement blocks waterproofed on the outside is my next job, I'm hoping I can get two coats on it. I will have a small portable propane heater in the garage.
We had some decent winds for a few hours- then some heavy rain. Any thunderstorms missed us. The temps are really cooling down now, expecting mid 40s tonight.
They're calling for 44 tonight in this area so the wife wants a fire, I'll get one going in about an hour. The wood we're burning is stuff we didn't burn from the shoulder season wood last year.
The new Avatar, what is it. All I can see is some white with brown lumps. my macrodegeration sometimes makes it hard to interpret some things. I was thinking cinnamon buns.
