That looks almost identical to mine. What I like about them is that the engine, hydraulics and everything else is well forward of the work area, making it much easier to use than some other brands or types IMO. Plus as I said, the Ariens sit taller than (some? most?) other types making it much easier on the back.

The buck- block or backing block on mine has a diamond- waffle pattern with sharp points..... excellent at grabbing the end of a log, even at an angle. But also hard on the fingers when a foolish operator allows them to get between the round and that plate.:picard::emb:

I have a one of the original 2011 (think that was the year) Speeco SpeedPro kinetic splitters that were recalled. Mine apparently had the warranty/replacement parts taken care of and continued being used. I bought it second hand about a year and a half ago. I only have probably 8 or so cords on it.

I tried the milk crate like Backwoods talks about, but I found it too hard to reach the engagement lever!

Some of you may notice the pull cord missing; it broke this spring, so I’ve been starting it with the drill for now.

25 ton MTD bought well used 5 years ago. Put a Predator engine on it 3 years ago and runs like a champ.

IMG_20180827_181048830.jpg This speeco was purchased when I was a kid, close to 40 years ago I guess. It came as a total kit had to even install the wheel bearings. 2nd engine bunch of oil changes NEVER been inside. IMG_20180827_181717208.jpg This one I've had 7 or 8 years.

I found a 2009 TW-5. Guy wants $4K for it. What do y'all think? Haven't looked at it personally yet...

It's not as dangerous as it seems. That's the second one I've made, been unscrewing logs for a long time and no injury's yet.

It's really hard to say how much a used piece of equipment is worth. A new tw5 with the log lift and the splitting table, why would you buy it without that, is around $9,000. So this price is about 40% of new. really depends on the condition of the machine and if you would use that type of machine to make it worth that much more money. Compared to let's say a $800 Big Box store standard splitter..

Have you seen it yet ? I'd have them show me it splitting, working hard even if you have to cut a log with it. At 40% of new if it passes the test and it's priced within the local range for splitters of that caliber I'd say it's not bad. Unless you abuse it your grandkids will be splitting with it or at least it's going to keep it's value. Except for homemade stuff i've never seen a junked splitter.
