    The work table is awesome.
The only time I bend down is to pick up something that fell off.
I use a pickaroon to move the rounds to my lift and up they go,then its belly/chest height and it's easier to move to the splitting wedge, then the split's move to the left get stacked up,from their into the shed.
Controls are at waist height for the lift on the left side and splitter control is on the right.

China made from TSC. Used it the last two years and about to use it again, no problems at all.

I have a Ram Splitter 16 ton electric. It was a bit on the expensive side. I went electric so that I wouldn't have to deal with bad fuel/carb issues on a machine that might go over a year without getting used. My yard is small enough so electricity isn't a problem. It also is a bit more compact without the gas motor. Its seen 15 or so cords in the past 5 years. I've put 2 log loads plus other tree service goodies through it. That's it in front of a log load that I processed this past spring.

22 ton husky. Briggs engine. Had it about 5 years. Used a 5 ton electric splitter before that. I would not be ahead on the 3 year plan without the hydraulics.

The Beaver is 34 years old. It is now on its third engine - all Hondas , its third winch and its second ram. A guess says it has split over 600 cords.
The frame has never required any welding. I can't remember if there was 12 or 24 of them built.

This is going to be a good thread for Backwoods Savage

Now you can have two other people sit around the splitter with you.

Yep, that is what I have as well, and it works remarkably well. But I still do most by hand. This year i never rolled it out of the garage.

Have you made a stand or anything to help with the lowness of the splitter? I have put it on my truck bed before, and that helps, but I think I would like to make a proper stand.

Ive got my 15 ton Speeco head and valve mounted on the side of my trailer. Custom made hoses with quick connects running up to the original 6.5hp engine and pump on the front. 10 gallon oil reservoir mounted beside the engine. It's also sporting the home brewed 4 way wedge that I built (now cleaned up and painted). This setup serves my purposes perfectly and it's easily handled everything I've thrown at it so far.

I made this kind of discovery early on. Here, the VAST majority of firewood is softwood with the odd birch mixed in. There are places selling up to 50 ton units and there's no hope of them ever being used to their full potential.

I went with a used 15 ton Speeco that I got off the local buy and sell for $350 Cdn pesos (not running). The owner had towed it all over the place with the fuel valve turned on. In typical Honda fashion, it filled the crank case with fuel and flooded. A 5 minute oil change and she was back in business. So far, it's easily cracked every single thing I've put through it even with a 4 way wedge on it.

If your equipment handles the job you need it to do, then there's nothing wrong with it.

Yeah, I did try that (and variations on the idea) but found the piece of material used to level the rounds kept getting pushed out of position while 'arguing' new rounds into place. In the end, I found it was just easier to noodle the really huge rounds in half and then get a helper to deal with the round halves, again with the splitter horizontal. I am sure there is a learning curve and I would get better at it but I just have not had enough really big rounds (read: non- lift-able for two people) that I have had to develop that method very much.

Depending on what happens going forward and whether or not I get any more really large firewood, I will probably go for the electric hoist / drag attachment for the splitter. That way I can not only lift anything that will fit into the splitter, I can also drag the huge stuff to the splitter also. I always try to trade electrons or petroleum for sweat and grunting..... :)

Splitting by hand for now with the occasional borrow from my brother in law. But when I get the funds eventually looking at Electric, specially the Boss line, they make a 10 TON dual action splitter that I have my eye on. Quiet, low maintenance, smaller footprint, easy to move around, etc....
