Ok I'm sure this has been covered.. I need to by a moisture meter for my firewood and lumber. What's a good one that others have used . And pretty accurate. I had a cheaper one was probably only 20 bucks. But gave me some crazy readings at different temperatures. Any info would be great. Heat550 Sent from my LG-H900 using Tapatalk
I bought one at Lowes in the past for a $30.00. When I used it I found my wood the year to be burned was dry. Since joining the FHC and getting on the 3 year plan, I never use the meter because I know it's dry. Others here were saying the same thing.
I bought this one and it seems to work good .It also has 4 extra pins which was a nice surprise. I check my wood which is in the shed and it is like 18% I mainly got it for this spring when I start with my 3 year plan.
Welcome farmer rob , I don't know if I said hi to you yet. I've got sometimers, sometimes I remember, and sometimes I forget.
Never had a problem with my HF one, I have tried it in everything from fresh cut green wood to construction lumber and it always gives me readings that I agree with, how the wood burns in the stove confirms it, the only time it gives me funky readings is when the batteries are low.
I have two of the Dr. Meters. They both read the same. One is the older version and one is the newer version. I also had another brand that verified the same readings, but I gave that one to a buddy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have the same meter that saewoody posted (MD912). I hate the operation/location of the on/off button. A short press of the raised button turns the unit on. It takes a long press-hold to turn it off. You cannot carry it in a pocket without it turning on. It's the only one I have, so I cannot compare its readings to other meters. It does seem to give pretty repeatable results and show small variations in a split from end to middle. At best though, these moisture meters are simply random number generators. Some just generate random numbers in a smaller range than others.
