Got a little more of the blow downs cleaned up today. 17 good oak rounds. I think I'll haul the splitter into the woods to make these a little more manageable to load. I got all the dangerous leaners and hung up trees down. They seem to be mostly red maple. I think I'll let them lay until Fall after the leaves drop. Too much poison ivy for my liking.
Good looking rounds stacked there.. oak for serious heating days. I try to guess how much more volume the splits take up than the rounds do. Don't think it comes to twice the space, but it sure is more.

Definitely won't go to waste! I'll be in there to get it right after the first frost..............which around here could be in a couple of weeks!
Nice rounds! There's gonna be a lot of firewood in that tree. There's a logs to cords calculator in the resources section: Firewood & Cord Calcuations Figuring a 20" avg diameter log, approx 20' long if those rounds are 16", comes out to about 1/3 cord. Should be a solid cord of firewood altogether in a tree that size. The increase in split/stacked volume probably depends on your split size and how much air you can stack in. I think mine is probably right around 1/3. Nice work Brad M ! That's gotta make going to the cabin even funner!
Shawn Curry, thanks for the reminder about the calculator. That can come in handy for those who wonder how much wood they will get from the trunk of a tree.
