So I have been working on this saw and gathering parts for it and decided to use a Jonsered 2083 gas tank on it since there are more of them around and they are cheaper than a Poulan 505 gas tank. The tank was a perfect fit with no mods. I installed a new Caber ring and got rid of the base gasket. Modified the Muff and cleaned up the ports alittle. Advanced the timing by a couple of degrees and got rid of the decompression valve. I also added some finger ports. Nothing serious just mild modifications. Squish without base gasket .028". Compression is 135 PSI on a cold engine and no break in. We are also 6000 FT above sea level which makes a big difference here. RPM's with a 28" bar and chain WOT no load 13,700 and 4 stroking. Not bad. Saw is 83cc. Oiler works good thanks to Cut4Fun for the part I needed. In the first pic you will see the crankcase filled with 2 cycle mix. This was a tip from Cut4Fun on how to check the crank seals. I let it sit for about 4 hours full of mix and would move the crank to a different location every so often to see if there was any leaks from the crank seals. No leaks and all was dry around the seals. So that is a pass. Here is a pic of the finger ports. Muffler mod. Completed saw.
Looking good, Roger! The mix in the case .... after draining and putting the top end on, do you do a P/V test for the entire assembly?
No I never did a pressure or vacuum test after putting it together. My main concern was the crank seals because everything else I replaced was new.
I know this saw does not look like much but it will really get with the program. I forgot to add that the original coil was rev limited to around 10,000 RPM and I replaced it with a Husky 55 coil in order to get the 13,700 RPM. If you get a chance to get one you will not be disappointed. The saws oil very good also and you can run a long bar with no issues.
