OH, I know your pain. I spent many hours on the internet researching stoves. There are so many choices today, not that that is a bad thing, but it sure makes its hard to decide. And I had to satisfy my wants and needs and the boss's wants and needs, lol, since it was going in HER kitchen. We love the little Hampton. Our only regret is that we wish we would have had the room and money for a cook stove. No regrets though, It is a great little stove, easy to run and heats like crazy. Having 2 really evened out the temps in our house, and I don't burn anymore wood with 2 than I did with one. It is actually much easier to heat the house and I don't have to fight it when it gets single digits and below. Furnace hasn't run all winter and we have been in the single digits or below, with snow cover, all winter. That said, I still love my ole Buck, it is a heating fool and it doesn't burn anymore wood than the Hampton and puts out more heat. Sorry EPA stove lovers, but I have both and wouldn't give up either one! Oh, and enjoy, what could be better than a new stove! :)
Once again, Good Luck Dave. Can't hardly wait to see what you end up with.

So, don't rush it. Wait for a good deal and install it.
It sucks having money in your pocket and a desire to spend it, but take your time and make sure what you get is what you want.
Myself, if I wanted the Ashley, I'd save my coin until June-July, then get serious.

    Dave... Congrats.

Don't know what if WS is willing to talk prices? But I would be calling. Because a few hundred more $$$ ? May get a Cat/Hybrid?

On the other hand? My 30-NC has been amazing.

Here is a video of a "FULL" Load. They don't have to be this full. I loaded at 10pm, and came home at 8pm and lit off coals within 5 mins. 22 hrs later and lit off of coals with a stove top of just under 200°.

Either way, get something. Anything bigger and newer will give you more burn hours and a better quality of life (warmer house because of longer burns, more sleep because of longer burns, etc).

    Saw your vid. Very cool.
What was the stove temp with all those 2ndaries?
I agree, anything other than what I have is an improvement.
I could always put the 30 in the shop at some point, or sell it.

I can relate on the $$$. I was lucky twice to have the cash at the right time.

    Here's a nice looking Firewiew

I'm gonna bet the new stove deals are gonna be few, given the winter weather and propane shortage. But then again, lots of people may have bought a stove and then realized it actually takes some work. Hard to say.

Wow, Jeff, that's in good shape.
    Victorian won't work here, though.
Dennis has suggested one of those a couple times.

Yeah, I made a convection deck for it. It really should come with one. This forces the air over the stove top. The stock deflector on the back doesn't do much at all. IMO.

Now all the air comes across the stove top.

The stove top was probably about 750°-800° the flue probe was around 1,000°, but it drops off after the initial start up. Normally settles in about 600°-700° and the stove top a little hotter than that.

Yea I see that type of deflector on more then one brand of stove and I questioned how effective it would be.
Looks like yours would be a good improvement.

Mine does the same thing. At least once a winter I need to take a rubber mallet to that pin.

With your insulation issues, I would go larger than the Fireview. I think the 30 will work just fine if that's what you end up doing. House might get a little warm at times with milder weather, but it should work.

It never has fallen out. Normally only gets that high. I do mine about once a year as well. Add some Graphite power and she is good for another year (without the graphite, it gets a little noisy)

    Agreed.
House gets a little warm now with the Ashley during SS, so I'm used to that.
    Smaller fires.
I'm thinking the learning curve will be fairly easy.:)

Just went on HD site, and it's showing they don't sell the stove at my stores.
I was at the Alpena store earlier this month and there was one on the sales floor.
    Somethin' fishy goin' on......

Oh, Man I feel your pain! I kicked myself over and over, waited and waited, posted rant after rant about not being able to make a move. Finally, I just dropped the piggy bank and went for what I know is sure to do the job. I am still trying to figure out how to tame it a bit and spread the heat a bit better. I've got 88 in the family room and 75 upstairs in the living room. My wife loves to warm. We were running about 65 F in the living room. My advise is find the stove you want and get that. You will be mush more happy getting the one you want instead of the one that was the best buy.

    Select a different store.
