I have had this saw for awhile and decided to get it going. Things I had to do to make usable. I think a tree or something fell on this saw at one time because there were a lot of broken pieces. No automatic oiler and the manual pump did not work. Found a crack in the housing and replaced the pump with a used one I found on line. Blew out all the oil lines with compressed air and now she works great. Rebuilt the Carb. Installed new crank seals. Put in new Points. The hand bar was bent bad and replaced it. New fuel lines and filter. There are a few more minor things that need to be done like the throttle lock and will get into that later. But now the saw runs great and another addition to the collection.
I had all the dirt roads plowed and then last night the wind blew like crazy and drifted the snow across the roads again. That's Wyoming, but I do like it here.
Had the ole Homelite out to do some cutting today and every time I would make a couple of cuts the idle would drop way down on it. I would adjust it back up and then the same thing. I was a little slow to realized the idle screw was vibrating back out on me but only when in the cut at wide open throttle. These old saws are funny sometimes. It also looks like it is having a little excessive spray back from the reed valves and back out the carb. I will continue to watch for that and it might call for taking the reeds out and checking them. But it is running good.
No spring on it. I took a chisel and punched the threads so that it will now have friction when screwed in. Originally the screw had one of those plastic inserts to keep it tight. But that was long wore out.
I took the reed valve block out on the 901 and found one of the reeds missing. I do not know how it ran as good as it did. I found another block and put it in and made a new gasket for the carb to reed block and no more spray back through the carb. So I think I have all the bugs out of this saw now.
