If they're anything like shoes on an old plow you'll hate em.
A strip of old conveyor or similar material in place of the bucket blade(if not replaceable just drill/torch holes) or poor man's plow shoes countersink bolts into hockey pucks

There's a lot of orange influence in my area and the used market thus has more inventory B or L series depending on how good of a deal I can find/drive for. The JD 2/3 series draw my attention but no way I'm buying new. I really just need to get on a lot a play with a few as I've been out of the tractor game for ~15yrs

Don't even have a FEL, I have a box blade. And I probably would do it in my grass for that reason, my drive is deteriorating aspalt and its like one step above a gravel drive, I would just tear it upm

Try to find an L series for a woods tractor. Go to a dealer and compare the size/mass of the axles. A B series will do fine, but you will always be worrying about over stressing it. An L series will be better prepared for "unexpected" surprises you find all to often in the woods and much less often doing field work.

L also gives hydraulic ram steering.

Plenty of good tractors out there. I like green ones, red ones, orange ones, blue ones. For woods work I personally like 30hp or better to deal with the hills. Stay clear of tier 4...dont think they have it figured out yet. Hydrostatic trans changed my life. I have an L that handles bulk of my chores. It's never asked for anything other than fluids and filters over the past 12 years. The one attachment I still covet (have box, scraper, brush hog, rake and post digger) is a forestry winch. No loader. Backhoe and sub compact have them. It's nice to be short and maneuverable in the woods. AG tires > R4.

If I decide to upgrade from a 3038E to a larger Deere, I will let you know. 2012 with 250 hours. Where are you located?

    A 44hp L series is a great size!

Just to add to your burning for a logging winch- I picked up,a Wallenstien FX 110 Bush Pilot in 2015. I cant believe I ever tried cutting and dragging trees without it. My productivity easily quadrupled, with the amount of work being cut in half. Its on a big old Kubota with about 60? HP. Im thinking about getting a FX 85 to,use on my JD 4520. That will allow my partner and I to both skid logs, as our woods, time is limited to a few weeks in winter when the ground is frozen enough to get tractors into the swamp. While you are at it, splurge for the self releasing pulley that attaches to trees. It allows you to pull logs around corners !

Anyone know of a Wallenstein dealer in Canada near Ottowa ( or close to Ogdensburg NY ?) Im wondering if the exchange rate for the Canadian dollar might make it worth my while to visit our neighbors to the north.

Mike I know you said you're not an expert but maybe someone can chime in and school me on where the Kubota B series depart to the L series.
The manufacturers sure as heck don't give you any pros/cons of any of their equipment

It's just the frame size. What's better just depends on your needs.

that can't really be the end all be all
as there are 2-4 different B series as well as L series
there has to be something in the working interior that creates the step change?

The current B's are 2301, 2601, 2650, and 3350. The 2301 and 2601 are the same size, the 2301 loader does not lift as much. The 2650 and the 3350 are the same size, larger the then 2301 and 2601.

The previous generation small frame B was 2320, 2620, and 2920. The larger frame B was 3200 and the B3000 (cab model). The B3200 was about $1000 less than an L3800.

The B's also have a mid PTO where the standard L does not.

Yes. Just look at the specs. The larger the rig the bigger the motor & stuff.

    On 6 January 2017, 1.00 Canadian Dollar(s) = 0.76 U.S. dollar(s), at an exchange rate of 0.7567 (using nominal rate).

But is the equipment built in Canada or U.S.? Duty?

The old Bs don't have position control. The new ones do.
