9° and the wind is calm for now. I just went out and pitched some uglies and a few pieces of spalted maple in the gates of hell. That should keep it satisfied for a while. I think I heard the snow globe is going to be shaken up later.

Very little sun for the last month. Drawback to living along the Great Lakes . Nice to see a bit of blue sky and sun this morning. Will be short lived as that mid west storm is supposed to set in this afternoon.
There's about 6 weeks of wood in the furnace room and it's a mishmosh of oak maple cherry and ash and it will get burned in that fashion also along with some coal! My busy season is officially over and it's time to get to work in the shop

At 1030 hrs. it's up to a whopping 4 deg. above zero. we are making ice. The snowmobile trails go across the lakes. No ice, no traveling, which means, no spending money at food places. Our economy depends on the winter. It's all looking good here!

Just got back inside from a little sledding! :)

14 outside, 69 inside burning a load of red oak shorties. Trying to burn up as many shorts and uglies as possible this winter - up to a couple days ago have only burned silver maple shorts, but switched over to red oak shorts when we hit single digits. This red oak was from a tree service load a couple winters ago - I split about 6 of the largest pieces and was pleased to find out that it is all in the 16% to 18% mc range; wasn't sure it would be ready to go this winter, but glad it is - will switch back to the silver maple as soon as we get back into the teens at night.

This stuff is short enough that I can load E/W for 2/3 of the load and the remainder is loaded N/S (or vertical) nearest the Fireview loading door; makes for a pretty full load and have been getting nice long burns with STT up to 650 (higher than normal for a typical load for me).

17° and the snow globe has been shook. I pitched a few pieces of beech in the wood goblin to tide it over until it's bed time feeding.
