HR WP & Saranac step it out & step it up to Nylatron! Better than the old discontinued anti-jam kit

The HR West Point & Saranac stoves are no longer made but with good new parts can still keep on burning!
I just came across a Saranac 50k BTU stove with a banged up auger bushing with the auger attached with one of those cotter pins you push in and bend the prongs back! It was working but turning very ruff.
So after struggling to get it out the auger motor shaft broke! LOL

So, using a titanium step drill bit from Harbor Freight, I stepped out the hole for the larger Nylatron and the auger turns like butter!

The bushing was less than $20 bucks!

Well fine.Why did you not tell us you informed/educated the owner to pull and service it every year??So now you have modified a part that the next stove mechanic will be baffled at,for a short while.Did you provide the owner with specifications/pictures/descriptions of your modifications?What happens if you pass away next week,and another tech comes in to fix their stove?Appears to me your intentions are good,but you are not thinking the long game. And do not get mwe started on the crap drill bits from harbor freight.This post may get be banned but I do not think you are doing a service to most and competent stove owners.

 

Good job Don... often, when working on obsolete or discontinued machines, you have to modify things to save them from the scrap heap. Most service 'techs' would have told the stove owner to scrap it and buy a new unit.

You are absolutely right! This auger bushing will last 20 years which is much longer than the bronze bushing and where the stove is discontinued and no longer supported, no stove shop will work on it or have the old parts to work on it. The part I put in IS currently available which makes this stove more servicble in the future and it being an aftermarket part, much easier to get too!

I can send you one shortly. Maybe even have it in the mail on Friday. I have a new one from Don I am gonna use next cleaning. I will just do that earlier. Pm me your address. Would be great if you could figure something out. I buy a new pot just about every year. Other than that it is a great stove.
