Would a SS liner be suggested for my setup?

I would liner the thing, yea.....put a tee on the bottom for a clean out, fix that $%^&$ connection on the stove while you're at it.....just throw out all that crappy pipe you have and buy some nice ICC pipe.....they even make a liner adapter!

those left over parts are from a thru the wall set up , makes me wonder if the stove was in a different location in the house or a Craig's list purchase that came with the pipe

How about insulation? Needed, or unnecessary, I'm currently on a budget....

Here's a picture from inside the fireplace, up. The pipe is more like an oval than a circle, it's straight though. Doesn't seem to be any issues other than some corrosion where it meets the fireplace box. Eventually a wood stove will be here, so I need to think ahead.....

Is the fireplace flue on an outside wall?

Yes, square room, plastered corner for the fireplace unit, out through roof.

the purists here will tell you insulation is better, but since yer on a budget, and the insulation is a PITA, forget it

I decided to do a complete tear down of the existing venting along with all the other venting I had here. Upon a thorough inspection of the goods, dbl wall venting looks good, gasket was good, and everything twisted and locked together nicely. I managed to add another 5' of pipe. Tomorrow I will work on the connection to the stove. This upcoming season will be the only time the pellet stove sees use until it's moved to another room for next year, when I'll get all new chit to vent.
