I'm still kicking around in my head if I'm gonna head over to the farm and cut and split some tomorrow. If I do go. I will be there before daylight and probably just scrounge small dead trees. Plus I need to check my trail cam
NO, it is farkin' hot here (105-110 heat index). I can't take the heat anymore. If I can work for an hour, I have to drink a gallon of water and rest for an hour if I want to continue. Then, I can only go for 30-45 minutes before another break. The cycle times get shorter and shorter until I hit a wall and can't go anymore. Drink lots of water, take lots of breaks, and know when to quit.
Dad and I have been hauling a load of logs every couple days but it gets unloaded and will sit there until i really get the itch to cut and split. Mid to high 90's and humid here for a few days so we'll be fishin, boatin and soakin up some ac for a couple days lol
I will be doing some cutting and hauling this weekend. Time is limited and the heat won't stop us. I hope the saws and truck will handle the heat. Don't worry I will post some pics!
Worked on the log pile this morning, was only 70 degrees when I started, 85 now. Page 2-3 Cuttin up a big crotch?? | Page 2 | Firewood Hoarders Club
Last night I took care of a few wheel barrow loads of rounds from a branch that fell last week. Set up the splitter in my garage which was 76 degrees, outside at 8:00 it was still 86. When I bought the electric splitter I was thinking it would be good not to have another infrequently used gas motor to maintain, didn't think of using it indoors in the summer when the garage was cooler. And that damm oak branch cost me $200 to get down. 35-40 feet long, 7" or so in diameter, came clean off the tree and landed vertically hung up in other branches with the tip on the ground and the butt end straight up. It was also over my stacks so if it fell on them it would have meant a lot of re-stacking. That much weight upside down looked unstable enough to not want to go near it. It was set up to kill. So I called up the guy who brings me wood and asked him to do it. He takes care of me so its good.
Sounds like my routine right now too. Humidity is awful in SW Penn now after the rain storm yesterday. Was glad for the rain, but now I am melting away!
I couldn't agree more. Yes, there was a time. Shoot, when I was a young lad I thought nothing of it. Went from the farm to the woods. Hot? Yes. Still can work though. Then they taught me how to saw lumber. We did not have a roof over our heads back then so all outdoors. Not a problem then. Would be now. Not all day but most of it. Actually went on a short 20 mile bike ride in the morning after doing a few other things. Today I simply decided to stay indoors for the most part but I see the dewpoint has really dropped so no doubt it is not so uncomfortable out there right now but I think we'll just keep the air conditioner going and enjoy it.
Same here. Amazing that last summer we ran it 4 times. Might be a record this year for using it though.
I'm a couple hours north of you in Shenandoah County. No wood cutting this morning and it's 92 in the shade here. Got some work done this afternoon but nothing as strenuous as wood cutting. Still want to try to get some done this week but we will see.
Way too darn hot this week. My son and I hit the pile of apple a few weekends ago in the AM when it was tolerable.
No wood cuttin' here, 76º this morning at 7 a.m. Took the trash to the dump, came back and jumped in the pool. After that, the little woman and I went to town to grab a few things and filled the gas tank at 1.87. Just got back home 95º...headin' back to the pool with our Aussie.
