That depends on the stove. I don't have that problem and I have an OAK

Back in the day it used to be that in order to be a pellet pig you had to have at least 3 tons on hand by the first frost. And a lot of people didn't qualify. Now it seems everyone has at least a year supply on hand before the end of August. Personally, I have 7+ tons because Lowes offered a deal I couldn't refuse.

I'd install the OAK as it is in their manual.

Also, as stated above. You are only throwing heated air away and drawing in cold air throughout your whole house by creating a negative pressure environment

As for pellets. I use between 2-4 ton (4 ton burning no wood.. 2 ton burning 4 cord of wood). Heating my 2,200 Sq ft (upstairs) and 900 Sq ft downstairs to about 72°-74°.

I bought the same sister stove (10-CPM). Great unit and will burn anything. Sold mine to my parents when I got the deal of a lifetime on my Enerzone Eurostar.

    In my shop/garage..

Well, I have 11 tons ready to go to heat my 1600 sq/ft (basement and main floor). Don't let that scare you - I hoarded up when they were having fire sales this spring. I usually go thru 4-6 tons (depending on how hard the winter is). That is without any use of other heat (beside DHW) and my house has a lot of room for improvement "tightness" wise. Also, I like to be warm so keep the main floor about 72 in the middle of the house (stove room a bit warmer).

I have frosty oak in super cold spells. No biggy for me as its a basement dweller. But heard of others getting dampness in the living area's. Oak might freeze and sweat from the indoor humidity for some..... Not sure I'd want wet floors or soggy carpet. I'd likely use a heated oak setup like Dex has if I were to do it all over. Or use a thimble that has the oak drawn around the vent to assist in warming up the incoming air or oak tube some. Should be enough to keep the freeze/sweating to a minimum???

My main floor OAK frosts but I don't get puddles on the floor - it evaporates to do that. Even if it did, it is over my hearth pad, so it wouldn't hurt anything anyway.

Our MFG home has a built in oak

The air handler in the laundry room (just off the kitchen with louvered door) has an outside air blend device that goes to the roof.

The flow of fresh air keeps the nasties from cooking "FISH" and such GONE

The stoves (1-2 or 3) exchange the air fairly fast.

Both the Whits have an oak connection, but the oak has an opening inside the cabinet that that allows air from the room anyway, so ????? pretty much a waste of time.

I like fresh air, plus we generally don't get that cold in winter, well at least not long stretches.

Flip side, if the house it extremely tight then the oak is a plus.

Here is a pic of the back of the stove, up the chimney, and a bag of pellets.

How far up the block off plate does the flue go?

If it doesn't go to the top, Ash will build up in that area and eventually block the flow (if it only goes up a food or two above the plate).
