I finally tried my hand with my welder. Had the welder for a while but waited to pick up an auto darkening helmet, gloves, etc. I went with a Hobart 125EZ. My first shot at a fillet weld....think I need a "little" more practice.
Thanks man....coming from you I'm energized to go give it another crack. Looking at it I was thinking I went a little too fast? I know that 125EZ is a low end system, but the one setting switch and self shielded wire makes it simple for a newbie welder like me.
Your splatter isn't bad so slow down a bit! Keep your tip angle 45* into the joint and your direction angle 5 to 15 *, "no more". Try small little circles as you pull your tip and stay no more than a 1/4 to 3/16 away from your work. Don't laugh when I tell you this but, spray your nozzle with pam cooking oil before you weld! It will keep splatter on your tip down to a minimum. Yes, they make a tip coating spray at + $9.00 a can, pam will basically do the same and is better for you if you breath it! Next, practice, practice, practice…
Great advice, WD! Didn't know the Pam trick- always used the 'spensive stuff when I used to weld Transformer parts together..... NozzleKleen was pretty stinky!
Nozzle kleen is a synthetic base lub/coating and is "REALLY" bad to breath. I welded in hull cavities with a 433 and using Nozzle kleen about killed me. You need good ventilation with it. For the home guy, Pam is all you need!
Thanks for the input on that unit but I had to pass on it right now as my wife wants to be a responsible adult and pay off debt before buying new toysIll keep looking though and Ill get one in here one day.
