He should at least get to write the preface.

The sweet gum I have been burning is two years old. I have not burned any of the sweet gum I cut at the beginning of the year but could look for it in the stacks and test; that wood may be too wet. Most of the poplar was split small just for the purpose of helping it to dry but there may be some larger pieces in the stack. I am worrying over the creosote and hope the wood is not causing it.

See, I didn't know how hot things should be cruising at; I have been afraid of things getting too hot; the manual warns of over firing the stove.

Yes, there have been times I watched the stove and witness this.

Creosote where? Have you seen some. In the pipe? If the chimney "stack" temp isnt higher than 100C, 212F then steam which is a product of combustion will condense on the inside of the chimney, the wet pipe then acts like an adhesive and grabs the particles of smoke to make creosote..... The pipe has to be HOT, HOT HOT HOT.

Overfire for your stove would be stove top temps above 650-700F, can you post a pic of the magnetic thermometer you purchased.

Your stove is too cold if your not seeing these secondaries with wood in it. again, you need more wood in there.

I think tomorrow morning I will do an inspection of the chimney at the tee.

If there's not enough draft to pull air through to the baffle you won't have them either.

Without enough heat in the pipe there will surely be not enough draft.

Kimberly run that thing hard enough to get up to 400 on that thermometer. It won't hurt anything.... I bet your draft gets established around 350....

& she won't get enough heat without enough draft.;) It's kinda hard to get one going with only 3' of effective stack.

I fail to see the value of your post. Is she here begging for stuff? I haven't seen it... Our good hearted community has freely helped her out.

And a very good hearted community indeed!

However, there is a big difference to a helping hand and a hand out!

It was a gift from a member on FHC; see my post here: A Nice Gift | Firewood Hoarders Club

I still need to buy one for the stove top to replace the oven thermometer I am using.

Yes, the members here have helped me out with chainsaws and chaps and one member made me some brackets for the chimney and of course there has been lots of information to help me learn. All they ask is for me to pay it forward which I will try to do. May is the postal carriers food drive and I contribute each year and this year I will try to contribute double as a way to pay it forward. I will look for other ways as well.

Yes, that is true. I was waiting on a sale or a find on the fleabay. I think I should just go ahead and get one at Lowes when I go out this week for groceries.
