It was warm here this morning based off the numbers I saw here. Coldest I saw was -3F.

Good thing Lake Michigan isn't frozen over or it would have been a lot colder.

Lets hope so, we moved about 1/3 cord in today. We have far more on hand but dont want it taking up room in the house or haul it back out when the weather breaks.... Only two real cold days here this year. I'll take it after last year.

In my previous home w/ the heat pipe going through an unheated attic, I had that zone set for 6 times a day for 10 minutes. Never had a problem in the coldest temps.

I did. If you mention you're on a pellet forum, you might get an additional 10% off. Great unit, perfect for your situation.

Sounds pretty much like my house (actually two rooms of pipes go thru garage).

Yes, I bought mine direct from Bear Mountain. IDK if you can get it anywhere else. Easy to set up and program. Seems expensive for what it is, but I don't have the know-how to make one myself and was well worth it to me.

I have set them set to run 2 minutes every 2 hours when it gets down to single digits, but at -35 wind chill its just easier to turn on the trouble zone. My problem is that the trouble area is tied into a thermostat in the room shared by the pellet stove. The trouble pipes surround a block foundation addition with a dirt crawl space. The coldest part of the house.

My boiler thermostat is also in the same room as the pellet stove, but the ThermGuard overrides the thermostat and tells it to turn on (I'm sure you know that, just clarifying for anyone who is unfamiliar with the unit). I, myself, would have it run more than 2 minutes because I would be unsure the pipes in the cold area would truly warm up in that time, but that is me. You know what works best (and easiest) for you and your situation.

re. Thermguard....Bogieb, "You know what works best (and easiest) for you and your situation."

I appreciate the insight. I'm aware of the thermostat override but appreciate any feedback on what others have for settings.

For piece of mind, I should look into those wireless thermometer monitors and place a couple of stats directly in the pipe / foundation areas of concern. Then I would know what temps I'm dealing with in the dirt crawl space / block foundation when it gets this cold.

    Anybody do this?
