Final pic for tonight. After about 5 min run time and then letting the saw cool. Here's where my comp landed. 20160115_185141.jpg

Wow nice work! If I remember right mastermind did one of these years and years ago. Those were some odd numbers. Looks like Echo left a lot on the table with it! Certainly not low hanging fruit though. Made ya work for it didn't it! Can't wait to see you turn it loose on some wood!

I'm anxious too. I still imagine there's alot more than what I gave this first saw but we will see what we get. IMO this saw needs about 50% gains. This saw is a pooch stock. I would take my 421 dolmar anyday. However. As we see it has potential just gotta find it!

millermodsaws this is truly good chit.

Its cool to see a build thats not a husky or still. Im an echo guy and will be watching with bated breath. seems like the Japanese mantra of reliability beore performance is in full effect. When will you be setting you sights on a 670?

Quality saw and worth the effort. Mine didn't wake up until I had run about 10-15 tanks through it. It was still slow but decent torque. Bulletproof reliable though. Bare minimum is to remove that stupid tube out of the muffler and re tune. There is just something about the Echos that makes them hard to dislike. I agree with you about the 421 though, but we all know those are exceptional saws that punch above their class.

Idk. When a customer sends me one. Lol. When I got the new saw in i was intrigued. A 50cc saw back in the 10 lb range. Well I tore it apart see what I was up against and bought one. Then I ran it. Was truly disappointed however they are a very nicely built saw. And we will see what we can do with them.

This saw I just did was a factory demo saw and they said it had roughly 6 tanks of fuel threw it. Which I'm sure was a lot of idle show off time. Lol.

Yeah probably lots of pizz revving too! Bet it wasn't quite broke in yet. I'm sure it's much happier now!

Nice to see some more builds here, not enough of them, been on a bit of an echo kick myself with the 4500/4600/5000 series saws, from the specs I've read, the 4500/4600 are only .2 pounds heavier than the 500p, the 5000 is a little bit more, and with minimal work these saws can really run well. Been watching closely on the 500p to possibly be a saw I'm considering in my near future.....:)

Ok I wanna say a few things before I post the vid. I ran well one of these for most of the morning. In the vid I'm using the stock 20" bar and chain to produce a fair vid. I can tell you there's an even bigger difference in these to saws when you bump down to an 18" bar and a good full chisel chain. There's still room for improvement but as you'll see I gained roughly 25-30%. And the stock saw is muffler modded. I wanted to know the gains over a Muffler mod just not stock.

Like I said it's more impressive with a smaller bar, better chain and more 50cc saw range wood. I actually don't mine using it now. Lol.

What is your thoughts on the domed pistons? I am not a fan of popups....right or wrong i always thought a flat top piston promoted a better flame front than a popup but seems like echo uses allot of domed pistons in their saws and while they dont have the hinderance of the popup i still wonder if flat wouldnt be better. any chance of an easy piston swap to get a flat top so that the squish can be cut square? of maybe mill off the dome? piston thick enough for that idea? i doubt it as most of the flat tops are pretty thin in the center and i bet these are no different.

I think the 590/600/620 all use domed pistons and i have replaced rings on quite a few echo trimmers that ran a domed piston

On these the crown of the piston I'd only 2.5 mm thick so it would be to thin to flat top it. I think for a woods port build the stock parts need to be used for repack ment purposes. Now that said. It's a pretty simple piston. If one could find a flat top replacement with a little bit taller crown well that might be the cats meow. Lol. I would have to crawl on baileys but there's a chance day a 350 husky piston may work.

Finally had time to watch the video. That's pretty dang awesome. Are you done or are there more tweaks to come?

More tweaks. But they will take me awhile. I have 2 of these to build and they'll both probably come apart a couple times trying to get a base recipe. Like I said. I just shot from the hip on this one.
