I see you have a therm on your flue pipe. Does that have a probe? If so, how do you install? Do you drill a hole?

Yes, Its the condar fluegard probe. You can use it on single or double wall. I see you have double wall - drill a 3/16" hole straight in through both of them, then enlarge the outer pipe hole to 1/4" Push the little insert in and then the probe gauge with the magnet. 18 inches up from the stove top. Real easy and works great for lower flue temps that cat stoves run. The instructions are on the back of the packaging also.

I can almost feel the warmth from that pic!! Hey, alternatively would it help to do a durarock/wonderboard on the paneling and use matching hearth tile? Wonder if that is more or less expensive?

Growing up, we had a self standing 16 ga surround behind our wood stove, was formed at 45* like wings... Heat was reflected perfectly by that old black stove paint sheet metal deal. As long as there was a 1" min air gap behind it, no worries.
