Anyone's thoughts on a Quad Classic Bay 1200?

    I agree.....$500. If they balk, mention that:
    1. 13 yrs old
    2. No service history
    3. May have to replace parts

    BTW, Slvrblkk, does the stove even run?

    Regardless of what it says, again, it's 13 yrs old. After confirmation that it starts, the conv. blower starts up, and the control panel seems to work, I'd stick out 5 Benjamins and wait.

    Wowza, I got $550 for my nearly 10 year old Englander PDV. You guys are making me feel like I did very well on selling the stove! (Paid 800 on clearance in 06 from Lowes)...so I don't think I did too bad on owning the Englander.

    I agree. It is a great stove, but pretty old.

    I'd go $500.. Even for $800 it's not terrible.

    Even if it needed all 3 motors, you are looking at $500.

    So $500 for stove, $500 for motors (not that it needs them, I'm just saying), and $40 in gaskets. That's under $1,100 for a $3,000 stove that heats like crazy.

    I loved how efficient mine was on low. Awesome heat, quiet, and it didn't eat a lot of pellets.

    Start low. Then go to what you feel comfortable with. A little cleaning of the motors, and a dab of oil on the bearings and it will likely last a long time. It sounds as if it hasn't been ran hard in a few years. And the original owners may have only used it a little as well. I know several people around me that don't use them a lot. It's just for a little added heat.

    Also, judging by the install, they bought the vent piece that has a trap in it and centers the vent in the middle of the stove. So it was probably installed by a Hearth shop and likely serviced by them as well. That's a giant assumption, but plausible.

    So DexterDay ...you're thinking this is a good deal @ $500? I'm going to try and go look at this tomorrow or Monday.

    OK...here's deal:

    Stove is very dirty in the back.
    Convection blower is id loaded with dirt and hair, definitely not cleaned in a long while
    Hopper lid hinge is broken about 3/4 across the hinge

    It started to feed pellets but then stopped, he needed to hit reset to feed them again. I noticed the pellets were bridged in the hopper not sure if that had anything to do with it.

    This past season his BIL replaced two of the snap disks, are those supposed to sit flush? One looked like it was hanging out a bit of where is supposed to go in.

    Fire started but then it stopped feeding pellets again, hit reset button pellets fed again. Flame was very low but convection blower started after maybe 4-5 minutes.....seemed like a bit.

    Flame seem to get pulled to the front of the stove but does have the fake logs in it.

    Based on firebox, stove looks like it does burn clean. No soot and light grey ash was in it.

    Once blower started there was a slight squeal that came from the convection blower

    Anyone have any idea what would cause pellets to feed then stop feeding other than hopper funneling? Reset button fixed it.

    Last but not least NO SURGE SUPPRESSOR ON STOVE.....oh, and it's up on blocks.

    The needing to hit reset, meant that the thermocouple didn't reach 500° on the allotted time. I'm betting that the thermocouple isn't touching the inside of the ceramic cover, and/or the ceramic cover isn't sticking out into the pot far enough for the flame to hit it.

    If the pellets were old, the flame may be small, or if the slide inside the hopper was to low, it would feed to little pellets.

    The motors and blowers will need cleaned and lubed, but based on your statements, I'd still be a buyer at $500-$600 and then a couple hours of elbow grease and it would prob be a good stove.

    As for the snap discs? You can download the manual for free to see how and where snap discs #1, #2, and #3 should be affixed

    Thanks....I'm looking at the manual now. Right above the "remove 4 screws" in the pic, right above the number 4 is the snap disk that was sticking out. I'm thinking of throwing a $400 price at them and see if it flies. He did say he wants it out of there, not sure if he was giving me a hint or not.

    That snap disc is held in place with a small clip. But it should be flush against that exchanger housing/exhaust path.

    If they don't use it? And want it gone? $400 would be a fair price

    If they used it and were replacing it? Then they would probably want more out of it.

    I think the clip is missing on the snap disk.

    They put 6 bags through it this past season, I don't think they really use it.....so I got an update:

    I offered $400 for, told them wasn't trying to lowball but I'll need to stick a few bucks in it....they said $800 would be the lowest....I'm not doing that for that stove.....they said two people are coming next weekend to look at it....oh well!!!

    You are in no rush to get a stove sowwait for the deal to come to you. Starting aat $400 was a good play in my opinion. Next Tuesday or so check back and if it is still for sale maybe offer the $500. Can't imagine a stove like that is gonna move to quick unless someone wants to flip it.

    Exactly...honestly and I'm not trying to be like that but I'b be shocked if they got 8 bills for that. I'd maybe go $500 but that is it.

    You did the right thing, esp. since you're in no rush. Given the starting & running issues, squealing fan motor, I think my original opinion was correct.....$500. Maybe $550 if you really like the stove.

    Oh, and if the stove is really dirty inside, poor vacuum could have been shutting the auger off.
