Hi all, my first post to the forum, but have been a lurker and occasional poster on another forum. I just had a dealer out to look at an install of a new stove to replace an older Englander pellet stove.

House is approx 1700 sq. Ft, 2 larger rooms downstairs and 3 bedrooms on second floor. Englander did an admirable job over 9 seasons with it, but wanted a little more creature feature way of heating the house.

Installer quoted 3900 for the Enviro Cast out the door. 3500 out the door for the quad. I haven't even researched the Enviro before now since original price was well out of my budget.

Any pros/cons of each? One a better value overall? I like the hopper in the quad much more than the enviro. Like the look of the enviro better overall. Cam anyone give some help in making the decision? 400 bucks over the lefe of the stove is no big deal.

Dealer seems very good to work with, only one that I have visited who offered to come out and see if my existing hole would work with a new stove. Help! :handshake:

    Welcome to the Forum...

I have the M55 Cast Insert and don't have many complaints. It seems to eat augers, but other than that and a blower it's been problem free. Probably can't go wrong with either!!

    X2 Both good units.

    Welcome to the Forum kdp...

Enviro has a few more features than the Quad and why its a bit more $$$. Quad will do the job, But lacks Hi/'Lo which is handy once it gets really cold.

Being only a 400 difference(2800 for the stove itself vs 2400 for the quad) is the enviro the "better bang for the buck"?

I don't think you can go wrong with either one. But would choose the Enviro solely on the hi/lo capabilities. It is maybe the most useful setting IMHO, and the agitator is a nice bonus if you come across some really bad pellets.

I would not recommend that stove for full time duty if you need to run on anything but low. A very nice heater, and mine works great, but the hopper is just too small for full time heavy usage.

Hi jtakan, I have considered this stove last year and cam *this* close to buying one from Andy that was a refurb. I think it was 1299 or in that range last summer.

With the bank we are going through, they require professional install and we have an efficiency Maine rebate that will bring the cost of the stoves down. I like the thought of dealer support as well. The dealer has installed my brothers quad mt. Vernon and is really good to him when needed.

    IHatePropane,

I did not have a thermostat on my old stove, so when you say hi/lo, yuou mean it won't shut off via thermostat, correct? Will the quad cycle a lot?

Yes, it will not shut the stove down (Although some will eventually) it will toggle between setting. For example when the thermostat call for heat it will feed on your preset higher setting, for me it is 3 and when the thermostat is satisfied it will go to 1. I run this way non stop from Dec-Feb usually. And you willSstill have an on/off mode as well.

The cycling depends on many factors. Me personally, my stove would either cycle a ton or my room would be too cold or too hit without hi/lo

Hey jtakeman, you have an enviro, correct? I know it might be a different type of stove, but have you had any delays in parts purchased? I am thinking that quad parts are more readily available on the chance something comes up during the dead of winter, but I am not seeing as many posts about the M55 Cast vs the classic bay.

No issues getting parts, Only issue is cost. A bit high compared to others. My stove has the same engine as the M55. It just has a bigger tank(hopper) and a different feed rate to pump out more BTU's. No regrets on my purchase. Freekin rocks as far as heat output even with crap pellets. No worries on what I feed it either. As long as they are dry she eat what I put in and I have put some nasty stuff in it(I'm a tester) that many wouldn't dare!!

My review is here on it. And I'll gladly answer any questions you might have.

There is a fella selling some Enviro parts on ebay. A bit less than the dealers are asking in my area. I bought from him without issues. Helps equal the playin field some.

I am really surprised the Harman folk haven't popped in. We have a good crowd of them here and they all seem please with them.

Thanks J! That is just the type of info I was hoping for. I asked a similar question over to the other forum and a lot of the Harman folk came out. They are truly great stoves, but the one model in my budget range(P43) is not one my wife is into. She started by saying it didn't matter on looks, but then I showed her the Enviro .

I'd love a XXV, but I'm looking at an additional 1,000 bucks.

Anytime, That's what we are here for!!

One thing with the M55 is make sure(if the stove has an older build date-inside hopper lid be on the look out for 2012 and under/2013 or higher should be up to date from factory), That it has all the updates. Some of these stoves seem to get missed by some of the dealers. I'd defiantly ask to be sure that it does JIC!! Otherwise you'll have a chance of overheating on the higher range settings.

Be sure it has the adjustable auger cover and the updated convection blower. I seem to recall a board upgrade or a ribbon cable upgrade as well. Even if they says it is, Be sure to check as they often overlook(being nice) them. Just a heads up so you'll be happier down the road!!
