Started smelling smoke in the house last night...

    Late last night I started getting a whiff of smoke into the house… very little but I could still smell it.

    This afternoon I ventured outside to check things out. I store my pellets on our front porch and cover them with the white plastic cover that came with the pallet of pellets. The vent pipe is about 5' from the porch. The strong winds we had blown the cover off of the pellets and wrapped the plastic around the pellet vent! I have a Selkirk vent with the OAK built in to the vent… the heat from the exhaust melted a hole in the plastic but it had surrounded the rest of the vent so the exhaust went out the end of the vent and got sucked right back into the OAK!

    Took 30 seconds to correct the problem…

    The oxygen level in the living room had gotten so low I was hallucinating… I thought I was imacman!

    I didn't know you used DT kroos? The stoves burn should have been slightly affected?? No? Glad you caught it and all is well now.

    As for thinking your imacman?? Can't imagine ;) (j/k mac)

    BTW- Love Selkirk DT. Best looking pipe in the industry.

    damm wind. Makes you kind of think about maybe some sort of box with some wire fencing on it to keep crud like that from happening. No fault of yours, but who knows what else could have happened.
    For me, it is keeping an eye out for drifting snow. my vent is 3 feet up, but I have had to dig it out a couple times in the past 5 years. Those nor'easters are the ones that play tricks on what happens with the snow. You might have none on one spot and 4 feet in another.

    My own fault… pulled a few bags out and didn't weight it down. Stay warm.

    It didn't seem to affect the burn… I guess if they used EGR valves on cars and got away with it our pellet stoves will run on stove gas… like they did in Europe and Japan after WWII….

    They would burn wood or coal in the stove then pipe the stove exhaust to the carburetor to be used as fuel. The car would start on gasoline then be switched over to the wood/coal gas.

    On the show the Colony they made those on the 2 seasons that they made of it. Used it on a generator.

    Yes I saw that too however this looks like a more practical way to harness the power plus it looks much more refined..
