I have a small inverter generator. I thought it was seized but after taking the casing off and starter rope off I can see the piston move when I crank it by hand. Thing is, it will not pass the top of the cycle. Is there a simple fix? Disclosure: I am not in the least knowledgeable in the subject, which is probably Pretty obvious.

Wrong plug which may be hitting the top of the piston?

It stops even without the plug.

Interesting. You can turn it both ways until it comes close to top dead center?

2 or 4 cycle? If 2, pull the muffler and see if you have a ring snagging the exhaust port.

I took it apart from the muffler side. There are four gears there and a couple of them have sheered teeth. Wonder if it is lodged somewhere it shouldn't have.

Yeah, but no big deal. Always better when they can be fixed for cheap. But I had already written it off so it was mostly used as a learning tool. I Never opened up a small engine before.

There was nothing on top of the piston preventing it from getting to TDC?
