Yeah. You know dat's right. Worked with an older woman who said that all the time. Funny stuff. Guess you had to be there.
Very cool Jafo! Good luck with it! What kind of wood were you burning, and how big are the splits? YIKES! Me too!! Looks like the thingy's I see them living in on the beach in Alaska on the Ice Cold Gold show.... It pulls the combustion air from outside thru the OAK, instead of using good heated air from your home (or, YURT!). So in other words you loose less heated air in the living space going up the chimney.
How warm does the shell of the yurt behind the stove get? Since the shell is so thin would it save heat if you put a reflective panel there to re-direct that heat back into the living space? Luv the yurt & the install. Enjoy them... KaptJaq
I have the heat shield, so there is really no heat emanating from the back of the stove that touches the wall. The wall itself is about 2 feet from the stove. The yurt is insulated with refletix insulation all over the shell.
I didn't see any mention of OAK for the IS on their website. Is the port provided and you just hook it up, or did you have to have an adapter or something? Not sure if I want to cut a hole through the wall/floor in my somewhat temporary setup, but at least the option for a future home would be nice.
From what I saw of the website, they don't even mention the OAK, so I would be surprised if many IS owners use one.
But shouldn't you want one because of that? You are pulling in air from outside through your draft and sending heated air outside.
In theory, we ALL should. But we don't! We should all take our foot off the gas about 1/2 mile before a red light and let the car glide to save on fuel, but when was the last time you did that? .
LOL! Well a yurt is about the draftiest thing you are going to be in next to a pup-tent. When it is cold, you can feel the air coming in when you stoke your fire up. For $85 I figured the adapter was worth it.
In my case, I welcome the fresh air pulled in, cause my PH can bake me out of the house if I'm not careful, so a bit of fresh cold air is a good thing at times!
Yes, I would like one. But, I did not want all the work that goes with putting one in. It would look horrible in my install as well. I am not sure the OAK would make much difference in my home. But in theory, I would like one.
