The pawl looks like it won't advance far enough to the right to reach the back of the correct tooth, but if you just keep moving it, it'll get there.
The support arm of the pawl moves exponentially farther as the threads are turned to the right.

When you sharpen one side roll it over then it will be set up for the other side.

I have a Stihl 2n1/ Pferd CS-X file as well. Note they are specific to the size of chain you will be sharpening: .404, 3/8", and 3/8" lo-pro/picco. (I cheat & use a 3/8" file system on both my .404 & 3/8" lo-pro & it works well enough for me.) You will have to clean the gullet out on the .404 chain every 2-3 sharpenings.

I use mine all the time. Quick & easy to use. Rarely need to use the grinder as I have mostly clean wood to cut.

How does the Pferd CS-X / Stihl version compare to something like the Granberg FnJ? I have been a free hand sharpener since forever, and there are chains I can't get to cut properly.

I realize the CS-X isn't one size fits all, but the rakers are an added bonus. The Granberg looks much more universal, just more time consuming. Filing time is usually beer drinking time, so I'm not in a hurry.

There is no setup time needed with the Stihl 2n1 or Pfred cs-x file systems. Mark a starting tooth then sharpen away. The angle on the handles are 30 degrees & you just parallel them to the bar. There are also guide marks on the guide bars parallel to the handles. It is so simple to use, even I can do it.

Here's one of my favorite sharpening tools. Helps to see what your doing if you CAN see what your doing....
yea the 511a and CBN wheel help some but the headlight help lots when hand filing on the vice and on the 511a.
sorry about the crappy huge pic but posting pics ain't a strength
